Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and skin, which is a nutritional statement about a vitamin doing its ordinary job. In people who are genuinely biotin deficient, correcting that deficiency helps their hair. In people who are not deficient, and most people eating a reasonable diet are not, the evidence that extra biotin grows hair is weak.

It is in this range because some people want something to take by mouth alongside a topical, and because a supplement sold with a straight face is better than a supplement sold with a story. It is not a substitute for minoxidil and it will not do what minoxidil does.

Follow the serving size and directions on your own jar. Do not exceed its recommended daily amount. If the label is missing or unclear, check with us before taking it.

Chew thoroughly. Keep the jar closed and out of reach of children. Tell your healthcare professional that you take biotin before any blood test; ask them whether and when you should stop it.

Nothing dramatic, and nothing quickly. Hair grows at roughly a centimetre a month, so any nutritional effect takes months to become visible, and it will always be smaller than the effect of the topical you are using.

A supplement is optional. It does not replace a balanced diet or a treatment recommended by your healthcare professional.

Biotin can interfere with blood test results, including some tests used to detect a heart attack. Tell your doctor, nurse and laboratory that you take biotin. Ask your healthcare professional whether to stop it before a test and for how long.

Not suitable for children. If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, take medicines or have a medical condition, ask a healthcare professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. Stop taking it and speak to a doctor if you have a reaction.
