About this product
A rich face cream built on snail secretion filtrate and hyaluronic acid, in a 50 g jar. Repair is the conventional name for this category of cream, so it is worth being clear at the top about what it reliably does, which is hold water in the surface of the skin and leave a dry, tight face comfortable again. It sits in a hair loss range because the topicals here are alcohol based, and the facial skin around a hairline takes the brunt of them.
What is in it
Snail secretion filtrate is a filtered mucous secretion from snails, and it carries glycoproteins, glycosaminoglycans and allantoin. Most of the research behind it is laboratory work on cultured skin cells, alongside a small number of human trials, several of them run by the companies that sell the ingredient. That is a thin evidence base by the standards of this range, so treat it as what it demonstrably is in use, a humectant with a light, cushioned slip that makes a heavy cream feel wearable. Claims you will see elsewhere about healing wounds, erasing scars or rebuilding skin run well past what has actually been shown.
Hyaluronic acid holds many times its own weight in water, and controlled trials of topical formulas have measured a rise in surface hydration. Where those trials also looked at water loss through the skin, they have generally found it unchanged, which is the honest limit of the claim. It hydrates the surface, and it does not rebuild a barrier. Every study cited for either ingredient tested a different formula at a different concentration, which is the ordinary situation in skincare and worth knowing whenever a brand quotes ingredient research at you, including this one.
Why it belongs here
Minoxidil solution is carried in alcohol and propylene glycol. Where it runs down from the hairline onto the forehead and temples, that skin often turns dry, tight and flaky in the first weeks of use. This is a facial moisturiser for that skin. It is for dry or dehydrated skin generally, and for anyone who has found the Face Hydration Cream too light for winter. Use it after the Face Cleanser, and on the nights when a retinoid such as the Retinol Night Cream leaves your face feeling stripped. If your barrier is genuinely compromised, meaning water and mild products sting on contact, the Ceramide Barrier Cream is the more appropriate choice, because lipids do that job better than humectants.
One boundary matters. This is a face cream and it stays on facial skin. If the scalp itself becomes red, sore or inflamed while you are using minoxidil, the label tells you to stop and speak to a doctor, and no moisturiser changes that.
How to use it
Twice a day, morning and evening, on the face and neck.
- Cleanse first, then pat your face until it is barely damp rather than dry.
- Take a pea-sized amount, roughly half a fingertip, with clean dry hands. Wet or dirty fingers put water and bacteria into a jar that has no pump to protect it.
- Warm it between your fingertips and press it over your face and neck within a minute of patting dry, while there is still water on the skin for it to hold.
- Take it up to the hairline and across the temples, which are the driest areas if you use a topical there, and stop at the hairline. Do not work it into the scalp.
- Give it two or three minutes to settle before sunscreen, a razor or anything else goes on top.
- If you apply a scalp topical in the evening, do your face first and the scalp last, then wash your hands.
The common mistake is applying it to bone-dry skin. A humectant cream works on the water already sitting in the surface, so an hour after a shower it has far less to hold onto. The minute after you pat dry is the whole point.
What to expect
The effect is cosmetic and it is immediate. Skin feels softer and less tight within minutes, and flaking at the hairline usually looks better within three or four days of consistent twice-daily use, largely because hydrated flakes lie flat instead of catching the light. That is the honest extent of it. The effect is temporary and depends on reapplying, so skin drifts back to its baseline within a few days of stopping. Nothing here acts on hair, changes what is happening on your scalp, or affects how well a treatment works.
Warnings
For external use only. Avoid the eye area and rinse with cool water if it gets in. Patch test on the inner forearm for two days before the first facial use, and stop if you develop irritation, a rash or itching. Do not apply it to broken, inflamed or infected skin.
If you have a shellfish or mollusc allergy, read this. Snail secretion filtrate is animal derived, which also means this product is not vegan. Allergy to snails is documented, and cross-reactivity between molluscs, crustaceans and dust mite has been described in the allergy literature. If you react to any of those, speak to a doctor before using this cream rather than patch testing it yourself.
This is a cosmetic product. It does not treat, cure or prevent any skin condition, and it has no role in treating hair loss. Keep the lid closed between uses and always use it with clean dry hands, since a jar is exposed to whatever goes into it.
Store below 25 degrees Celsius, out of direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
